    Finding a Sporran

Hey Everyone, I am still outfitting myself after buying a new kilt from USAKilts.
It is a Scottish National pattern and I thought a nice black casual sporran would go good with it. I have looked at serveral sites on the net. I would like one with a nice knotwork pattern to it at the top. Does anyone know of a good place to get one that is not too expensive yet not look flimsy either.
    Thanks
    Mike

Do you want one with a metal medalion with a knot pattern?

    OR

Do you want one with the knotwork embosed on the lid portion?

    Both are available.

Of course there's UsaKilts, there are many sites out there with sporrans, go with what you like.

    Some suggested sites are...

    http://www.stillwaterkilts.com/
    http://www.kilts-n-stuff.com/index.html
and easily the nices sporrans out there...

Keep usability in mind--how much room do you need? I just got a Buzz Kidder Rob Roy sporran and it holds a wallet, cell phone, keys, small Moleskine notebook and a pen with a bit o' room to spare. Practicality is important. I think there are a couple of other largish Buzz Kidders with knotowrk medals, as well as the Inverness sporran which is said to be even roomier than the Rob Roy. (The Rob Roy does not have knotwork though.)

    Welcome!

Many of the patrons of this forum seem to like the Rob Roy style tartans that are made by Buzz Kidder. I'm not a personal fan of that style. However, I just bought a braided edge sporran from stillwater kilts. For only $35 it's of exceptional quality and I really like it.

Also, if you plan on wearing this during the day or frequently I would strongly suggest buying one of the the leather sporran straps that Cavscout makes.

Doesn't quite fit the description you mentioned but you owe it to yourself to look at the Freelander Sporrans a worthwhile investment if you want something unique, sturdy, and large. I gave a review of the one I purchased here: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=19749

"...not too expensive..." is a relative term, but here's a link to a place with many a fine sporran with the kind of Celtic knotwork you're asking for.

Don't forget the option of a Tasmanian Devil Sporran! from rkilts.com
I have one, I like the small size, yet with the capacity to grow.
