Kiltie tattoo advice

So, I've been wanting to get a new tattoo for some time now, and the only thing I've seen that would be pretty cool would be the kiltie image I'v got as my avatar. I'm leaning to get him about 5-6 inches tall on the back of one of my calves.

As several of you have tats, anyone have any thoughts? Maybe a better placement? I already have one on the outside of each shoulder, and I'm not covering either of them ( unless I get them re-done better!)

Skip the kiltie image and just work something around your son's name. When it all boils down to it, kilts are what we wear not who we are.

It will mean more to you in the years to come and it will mean more to him.

The kiltie is alright, but do you want people that are not in on the joke to ask you why you have the "women's washroom" symbol tattooed on your leg for the next 50 years? Funny to us, but it will grow old with the people that don't get it and have to ask you.

As one of the more heavily tattooed members here, my advice to you would be to wait. I'll tell you the same thing I told my little sister; put the design away some place safe for 5 years, and then if you still want it go get it.

Anyway, when you find the right design you won't need advice from a forum, you'll know it.

Aaahhh my friend. Tattoos can be an impulsive thing, just like buying kilts, except the fact that you can take off a kilt any time you want, tattoos are there for life yo! Like flairball said, when a tatto is right, you will feel its right, no questions asked. Got several myself, all pretty big pieces, and plan on getting more. Let the tatto express something about yourself, something words cannot say.

I had the same thoughts as those above... I had the idea for my 2 calf tattoos for a few years before I went ahead and got them.

Also, if you still like the design and your company is still doing well in a year or so, THEN get it.

Think of it this way... kiltsrock.com is a relatively new thing for you. If you can build a business around the brand, GREAT! I really do hope it does well! However, if the business fails or something happens that bitters you to it for some reason, you'd have to live with a reminder of it for the rest of your life.... just a thought.

still itching to get some ink, though. It isn't quite as bad as the jonesing when a kilt is on order, with the owner of a reputable tattoo parlor living accross the street, it is all to tempting.

You might want to talk to your artist about that design. I'm looking at it and thinking it might turn into a black blob, 10-15 years down the road. You definitely have to keep thinking about how it will appear to your grandchildren.

Alright.
So I'm sure everyone's been waiting for me to chime on this one, no? While I do agree that tattoos should not necessarily be an "impulse" decision, I do feel that most people put entirely too much emphasis on "what'll you think when you're older? What will your grandchildren think?" etc etc. Bottom line, tattoos are fun. Tattoos are an expression. That expression does no necessarily have to be about who you ARE. That expression can be humour. That expression can be one of your passions. And, that tattoo can EVEN be an expression of your favorite garment. I read somewhere a lady tattooed a coat hanger on the back of her neck as a symbol of her love of fashion. Yes, the tattoo is there forever. So, thought (especially in regards to location on the body) should be weighed. If you're willing to wear that particular tattoo on said particular limb. By all means DO IT!

I guess bottom line is, don't take it all so seriously. Have fun with tattoos and your skin. Life is entirely too short to ask all of the "what if" questions. This doesn't mean that I think someone should go out and tattoo "F--- YOU" across the forehead or some other nonsense. Use good taste, and just enjoy it all for what it's worth.

what about your forearm?
go for something different, Celtic knot or something.
