First of all, welcome to our rabble

Inexpensive is a very relative term. But, there are a couple of places that the vast majority of the members here (myself included) fully support. Try USA Kilts . You can purchase one of their "Casual" models for $110-$130. USA Kilts uses a poly/visc material that's awesome (especially for the price) and he has numerous tartans to choose from. I would recommend calling Rocky (USA Kilts) up and chatting, he'll square you up.
Another good place for an "inexpensive" kilt is Stillwater Kilts. You can find acrylic kilts there from $40-$80. They also offer a line of heavy wool kilts for around $150 or so... though I think there's still a sale going on. None-the-less, good luck in your searchings. Don't be a stranger.

Since USAKILTS and Stillwater have already been mentioned, SportKIlts is another option.http://www.sportkilt.com/index.cfm
You should also read Riverkilts comparison of SportKilts and USAKilts:

    Welcome

Give us more information on what type of kilt you need....if you know....
Do you want a tartan look? Do you need a punk look? Do you need a kilt for knocking around? Do you need a kilt to wear to work?

    Remember,

Like everywhere else, with kilts, you can have any two of price, quality, or service.

So do you want price and quality with a long wait, or price and service with poor quality.

And, start saving your loose change...'tis a new addiction looming for you friend.

There's a lot of great kiltmakers available here. It all depends on how much you want to spend and what material. Just compare apples to apples. Prices seem to vary but you are not always getting the same material. The toher factor is are they custom made for you or off the rack. Kilt makers that make them custom for your unique size charge a little more because they have to account for there time. Some are mass produced in the US and some are made off shore. I always feel better supporting North American made products if there not Scottish imports before anything else. That's just me!!.
A lot of casual kilt makers that use PV will also use anything from PV to wool if asked. As long as they can get the fabric in at a good cost and it's quality is good enough to use. I personally buy all my kilts from MacHummel at Canadian Casual Kilts He doas everthing custom from PV, denim, camo, etc. to machine stitched Wool.

Just compare similar products when you make your choice.
    For example,
    PV 5yrd to the same.
PV 8 yrd to the same.
5 yrd denim, camo, canvas to other like products.
6-8 yrd denim, camo, canvas to other like products.
5 and 8 yrd Acrylic to other like products.
5 yrd and 8 yrd wool hand stitched traditional
5 and 8 yrd machine stitched traditional style

For more of a punk look, check out Alan at Renegade Kilts. Here is the link for his rebel model. Support our members and advertisers.

If you are going for the punk look, you should get a Black Stewart from Stillwater Kilts.
