24" Stillwater Length

*shrug* And I'm 6'2" with a 34" inseam. For me, the SWKs are absolutely perfect. Top of the knee, right at the navel. While there is a lot of variation in the human body, the 24" length of the Stillwaters will fit just fine on the vast majority of people. And if it's off your ideal by a half inch or an inch? It's still more than worth the price, especially for the heavyweights.

I am 5'10" and, depending on the cut, I buy finished trousers with either a 30" or 32" inseam. Despite my pudgy appearance, I have something of an hourglass shape (OK, more like a half-hourglass), in that I have more top and bottom than middle. My natural waist is somewhere around my umbilicus, but with the right belt, I can cheat that up a bit - but only so far, beyond which gravity and geometry conspire to push my kilts back into a natural resting place.

Barb and others have pointed out that a well-made kilt will flare a bit at the rise to accomodate this, that the narrowest part of the kilt will be somewhere below the top of the waistband. My Standard SWK (Black Stewart) is not built this way. As a result I have to work too hard to keep this one in place.

Despite entreaties by this group not to hem this kilt, I still feel that it hangs too low because it wants to ride lower than where I want to put it. 24" is not for me, not in this model. In my present financial circumstances, my spending money is going toward other non-kilt priorities, or otherwise being saved for something closer to my ideal.

Hey Guys, I am glad that we are talking about this. I have wanted a Stillwater kilt for a long time but have held off because I am 6'3" with a 34 waist. I am glad to hear that some tall guys think that 24" is ok to wear.
I guess it all depends on how high up your waist you wear it.

34" is a very popular SWK size so if it doesn't work you can always re-sell it. I acquired one of my 34s that way. O'Neille

Ditto. I'm 5'11" and was worried it would be a wee long for me. But now I feel pretty confident about getting an SWK . . . soon, I think . . .

I'm 6-0 with a 32 inseam 36 waist. just got my heavyweight saffron tonite! although not a perfect fit in the seat, for the price i can CERTAINLY adapt.

if it's worth a $20 gamble, buy one and if it's not for you, you just pay shipping - $10 each way. just don't remove the pleat stitching before you decide.

I have a couple Stillwater pieces. They have about 2 or 3 inch rise above my waist (above navel), and falls to about mid-knee...which is where I like it... If I am feeling lazy, I'll wear it a smidge lower, and allow it to drop to the bottom of the knee. All in all, I say these are worth more than the asking prices. Comfy, good looking, and pretty well constructed... great for casual wear, or for the times that you may be around folks who don't know the difference between a hefty formal kilt, and a casual piece. I am thinking of getting a kilt in their nightstalker, or a heavyweight in tartan (I don't recall the clan name... but the tartan has nice earthy tones to it). Perhaps a shadow tartan in black for something a bit more "dressy"... just cause I like the look. Typically I don't think a kilt should be non-tartan... but those shadow designs are just neat.

I'm just over 5'9" and the Stillwaters are fine on me. My other traditional kilts are 22 and 1/2" in length. I wear the Stillwaters about an inch or so higher and they hit just above mid knee.
