    Cool Invisible

Following some advice on another thread, I bought a plain black polyester kilt on eBay. This I have been wearing around the house and garden as a general purpose garment. Its actually been rather better than a wool kilt in this hot weather.

Anyway, today I went down to the local supermarket to buy the month's groceries. As well as said kilt I wore a navy polo shirt, navy baseball cap and trainers (aka sneakers). Reaction from the assorted shoppers and passers by? Nada. Not a blink. I chatted to several store staff who helped me find stuff, as well as a couple of acquaintances and the checkout operator. On the way home I popped in the local 7-11 to buy milk which I'd forgotten. Again no reaction, in spite of there been several teen and 20s around.

All in all a great trip out, and you can't beat that kilt wearing feeling.

    Hi Barry,

Sounds like this is a first kilt outing for you (forgive me if I'm wrong). The reaction you received is, to be honest, the usual one. Most folk simply accept. Of course, some folk might be thinking things, but then that goes on all the time. The person who is most aware (at first) is the kilt wearer himself. It soon becomes seond nature. Enjoy your kilt! (And then kilts, as once you start, well . . .)

That is the usual reaction. Most of the other reactions are positive ones. I do get questions like: Is that a kilt? Thats cool. I rarely get a negative reaction. Enjoy your kilt.

I've noticed that, too. I go into the Albertson's sometimes after a gig or something and I expect some kind of reaction, but I guess people don't see what they're not expecting. Or they don't want to look like they can be surprised. On the other hand, I went in once not long ago and the girl at the checkout asked me why I wasn't wearing a kilt. So people do notice even if they don't appear to.

I believe that the color of the clothing says much about a person. Also, the people observing the clothing may be less apt to take notice when the color is dark or pastel. I think. or not!
Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?
