    Unhappy Retirement party

    Hi all,

Last fall I did myself a retirement gift by buying a complete jacobean kilt outfit with the province of Quebec tartan and decided to wear it at my retirement party held last january.

I enjoy wearing the kilt even if I have no scottish origin, Maybe in an other life I was a Scot. :-)

My working companions and my beloved boss had mixed feeling looking at me and I wondered after if it was tacky to do that.

To get the feedback of my website visitors I ran a poll to get the right answer and here are the results :

    Yes it's tacky : 61 %
    No : 27 %
    Not sure : 12 %

I accepted gracefully the verdict but I disagree with it, but I would do it again anyway.

In fact the greatest resistance about wearing a kilt comes from my own family.

I think if you conducted the same poll here you would get a very different result.

Aw heck, it was a retirement party. You don't have to care what they think anymore.

Indeed I agree with the above. And NO is was not tacky! You apparently worked with some closed minded cretins. In some cases I can see not wearing one to the office but for a retirement (or any kind of) celebration?? Ignore them and enjoy life!!

Stay with the program... we've all had a few bruises along the way. For the price of a good eyepiece you could get yourself a custom R-Kilt with the big honkin' pockets to hold your lenses, flashlight, and stuff.

Also you might want to read

    Good advice anytime.

    Have fun!

Welcome, I went to your website and unfortunately your photos are no longer present. I used to work at Canada-France Obs. on Mauna Kea, HI (college Freshman). There Are a number of personnal observatories here in Arizona. One is just down the street in Hereford near Sierra Vista. We have a better climate than Phoenix or Tucson anyway. Also we're closer to the heavens than they are with much less light pollution. You may want to check with the University of AZ, South or Cochise community college for job openings. I'm a transplanted northerner of 17 years now in AZ. O'Neille

Gee....if the party is given in your honor I would think you could wear what you want as long as it's in good taste. It sounds to me as though you were quite nicely dressed!

Congratulations on your retirement! Don't worry, be happy - wear what you want - no explainations are necessary.

Oh yeah, welcome to the rabble!
