LOL. Oh, I shall no doubt drop in from time
to time. It was late and I was tired when I
posted. But I really do like Billy Connolly.

Billy Connolly is awesome. I'm suprised though, I see no mention of his part in Boondock Saints. An amazing movie. Also it was good to see him playing an Irishman, as his parents were Irish immigrants.

I liked his work in "Boondock Saints," as well as his bit in "The Last Samurai." I'll admit I've never seen him in any other context I can remember.

For a lot of Americans his first exposure was as Howard Hessman's (Dr. Johnny Fever of WKRP) replacement on "Head of the Class". HotC was about a group of gifted students in a New York City high school...all of them characters (stock characters, as a matter of fact: the nerd with glasses, the fat genius kid, the very Anglo-Saxon looking conservative kid, the toally glamorous but really smart chick...). Billy got to sneak some of his "historical" material into the scripts disguised as World History lessons...the one that I remember most vividly was the one about Rasputin.

He showed up once and a while on the Tonight show...and the "historical" bit that I remember best from this period was the one about Bonnie Prince Charley. He once showed up as the fun-loving brother of the uptight college professor played by Malcolm MacDowell on a show called "Pearl", which was Rhea (Carla) Pearlman's next series attempt after "Cheers" shut down.

That's just the easy stuff from some of the vehicles that showed up in the USA. The guy's resume is extensive and varied and he is just so frickin' funny. One of his bits that's been preserved as a recording (and is available as a download from itunes) is "Ivan the Terrible"...now I thought that this was another historical bit like "Rasputin" but it's not; it's about a wrestler and is, in fact, a really old joke that I realized I had heard many years ago...but the Connolly version is so funny...let's just say that getting there is half the fun in his telling this old chestnut. Not for the easily offended or the faint of heart...

I've always regarded Billy Connolly as an embarrassment to Scotland and I've never found him either interesting or funny, so I'm in the Hamish camp on this thread. However its re-assuring to read here that some of you actually do manage to find him entertaining.

To all of you folks who feel that Billy is less than a good representative of your homeland, we in the USA will gladly trade your Gallagher for Billy...and we'll throw in Carrot Top to sweeten the deal.

...just think: not only do you get the "Sledge-o-matic" but you also get a seemingly endless stream of prop comedy.

    Act now...operators are standing by.
