Why be ...

I AM my own tradition. I am not a go along, I get along. Sometimes I go along, but, not to get along. It's to economise for getting there as I get along. Still, I've found myself getting along without having to try too hard to get along. I just happen to be going in the same direction. It's true, particularly when I find myself amongst those whom are apt to get going rather than get along. Ya kno wuttameen? Ya gotta be wearin' a kilt to pick up on this one!

We went to the show yesterday which was brill, but just like I said, I was the only Cilted person there as far as I could make out. The rest were in shorts and yet again, most were wearing the 'castaway look' pants. Guess there must have been around 8000 people there. There were no questions or looks/stares (again as far as I could tell), everybody was enjoying themselves to much to take notice of the guy in the Cilt. When we came out of the show, we headed to a little pub for a beer before we got the bus home. We had to pass a building site on route and there were about 15 construction workers all waiting for a mini bus I guess to collect them all at the end of their shift. I thought I might get some ribbing but continued on towards them regardless. Not one of them said or did anything, they just carried doing what they were doing. Elaine kept an eye on it just in case they were waiting for me to pass .. but as I said, they did'nt. I know Cilts in Wales are becoming more of an excepted garment to be seen in but it beats me where all the other Cilt wearers are .. the welsh tartan centre does a roaring trade .. whats everyone doing with their Cilts?

the funny thing is ai often have seen fashion trends becomin popular a few years

after ai stopped wearin whit ever it wuz... an moved oan tae somethin new...

ai hope kilts dinnae become tae 'fashionable' ... ai'd hate tae hae tae give them oop... :rolleyes:

I tend to be very quiet and shy and like to blend in.

However, I have waited for decades for men to start wearing something comfortable and being 50 I didn't think I could wait that many MORE decades so here I am.

I want this change to happen, for kilts to be commonplace, so I'm walking through shopping malls to get my kilt in front of as many people as possible. Well....that and get some exercise in air conditioned comfort. Here in the desert at 10:00 at night it's still 100 degrees.

I have four malls in the city I will walk monthly and two malls closer to home I will walk on Friday nights twice a month.

Thus far the only mall where I had teenagers pointing and laughing was on the far east side of the city.....weird....

This Friday night on the way home I am doing a mall walk, then stopping at a drug store for something and then actually doing REAL grocery shopping in a kilt. That will be a first, actually trying to do an extended activity instead of just being out walking. Previously my kilted grocery shopping was grabbing one item and going through the self-checkout.

I just keep hoping that as people see me here and there more shy kilted desert guys will venture out into public.

Well, I guess we can all switch to lederhosen. We'll debate edelweiss vs. hunting montif embroidery, and Brown vs. Black braces. Then the traditional German style wearers will take issue with the modern lederhosen companies (utilihosen , amerihosen, Sporthosen, and Freedomhosen to name a few).

At least the beer fans will still be happy!

Well, I guess we can all switch to lederhosen. We'll debate edelweiss vs. hunting montif embroidery, and Brown vs. Black braces. Then the traditional German style wearers will take issue with the modern lederhosen companies (utilihosen , amerihosen, Sporthosen, and Freedomhosen to name a few).

And instead of watching Highland Games we can all get cowbells and cheer for skiing, soccer, luge, things like that. I like it!

Are you guys talking about "clam-diggers?"

yup, they are talking about clam-diggers. Used to wear them when I was a wee lad, actually digging for clams in the bay back home. Looked pretty silly when not up to yer knees with a clam rake.
