Taming a Rogue Pleat

I rec'd my SWK saffron. The left side of the apron that begins the first deep pleat wants to curl outward and I don't think it should. Should I just re-iron it starting at the top of the existing pleat and changing where the pleat ends at the bottom of the apron? This seems like it would work but will alter any taper in the apron. Any better options?

I have that same problem with both of my SWKs, one is a standard Blackwatch the other is an Irish saffron heavyweight. I'll be interested to see what everyone comes up with as a solution.

I LOVE!!! these forums. I figured the fix would have to do with re-pressing, but iit's great to have the guidance of a Kiltmakers Forum regular. Thanks mddock!!

I have a SW Black Watch that originally did the same thing. I emailed Stillwater Kilt's and they gave me the same instructions that are now posted on this forum and referenced in mddock's post. It wasn't hard to do and it worked perfectly!

Well, I tried the re-pressing thing. Had to move the pleat over 1.25". The apron lies flat now at the first deep pleat, but my iron, set on wool and steam, wasn't up to the task of obliterating the original pleat, so I've got this extra line that really shows on the solid saffron. I don't think it would show on your black as much. Hopefully, as time and dry-cleanings work their magic it will fade away. It would be nice, though, if SWK would just modify their apron design a tad.
