- good hiking boots/shoes. If you do hiking though, don't be suprised if your foot sticks in the moss.
- water proof jacket (invest in a good one)
- some heavy and some light sweaters (jumpers in the UK) I am not sure what the weather is like now, but depending on where is Scotland you go, it can get chillier at night.
- a good day pack
- wool socks
- a camera and lots of film
- a copy of Lonely Planet Scotland
- kilt or shorts and a pair of pants
- a good attitude. The Scottish sense of humour consists of taking the piss out of you. They will mess with you pretty good, but it is in good spirits and you learn to throw it back pretty quick.
- An open mind. You are visiting 2006 Scotland not Brigadoon. There is a lot of beauty in the place and in the people. Enjoy the history, but don't forget it is a modern country with modern issues (keep your wall as close as you would at home). Don't expect to see people walking around in kilts throughout the Highlands...........because you won't unless you hit some of the may games that take place in the summer months.
- A sense of adventure. Scotland is an amazing country with a ton to offer every visitor.
- Be courteous and the locals with be the same.
