A kiltie on myspace brought this to my attention. Rufus Harley, a Jazz Bagpiper has passed. here is the story: http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?n...id=40301&rfi=6 I raise a dram in his honor.
I heard the news on the radio - I had no idea he was 70 years old. A moment of silence for a true original.
I met him, once. I took this picture of him at the Tartan Day parade in NYC a few years back. Didn't know who he was, at the time. He had the funniest "kilt" outfit I ever saw, and he played left-handed. RIP, Rufus.

I've never heard of him. does he have any records out? I would love to hear his music. Surely there is a band of pipers in heaven. James

James I'm sure after the few hundred years that bagpipes have been around, there is quote a rabble o' pipers a'whalin away up there!
Ah, I found him on Amazon: Rufus Harley CD's James
A true Philadelphia original, he will be missed.
Rest in peace..
Paul Murray Kilted in Detroit! Now that's tough.... LOL
He has a few CD's out. My brother bought one on ebay. His sound is certainly unique, combining his piping with more traditional jazz instruments. I will honour his memory with dram too.
