I'm happy I posted something semi interesting
The hose down "issue" was new to me, after all....it's my 1st kilted summer.
I don't like "normal" socks...up, down or whatever, they just don't look good with a kilt.
Oatmeal kilthose, triple folded and pushed down....works fine.
I also found some very usable long "country socks" grey/green blend with green tops. Folded and pushed down.
Also handy...hiking socks. These are blue/grey blend...perfect with the XMarks kilt....folded twice.
The advantage of the country/hiking socks...they're long enough to fold them, so they give some optical "body" and they're cheaper as kilt hose.
I also found some (new) Dutch army socks in an army surplus shop...they're oatmeal and perfect for "hose down".

With these ankle height brogues I think wearing hose up looks best (Edinburgh)
