Welcome!
What's the tartan you're hunting? There are some folks on this board that can root a tartan out of almost nowhere

In an ancient Scottish tartan, my clan is Shepherd. In the Irish clan Maguire.

Easy-peasy. The Shepherd tartan is also the Northumberland Check, also referred to as the Falkirk tartan/Border/Shepherd's plaid:

The first link is to the Northumberland Tartan Co. in England, but other kiltmakers offer it, including our own Matt Newsome. It's much more common than you think.
As far as the tartan for the Maguires goes, have a read on Matt's web site:

You can't go wrong with Matt!
Cheers,
Todd

You are so awesome. I found the Shepherd tartan about 7 years ago and haven't been able to find it since. Now with Aiden on the way, I've been wanting to find it again.
If Matt is the man, I'll be talking to him soon.

I'll secomd that, or third, or fourth (you get the idea  ) that!!
Matt Newsome is the curator of the Scottish Tartan Museum in Franklin, NC. Their number can be found on their website, found on the many links scattered around this site. He is very knowledgable and helpful. I'd highly recommend him as a resource for anyone trying to find a tartan or for info on a traditional kilt, belted plaid, or earlier highland dress.
Oh Yeh,
Welcome from the Deep South (US)!!!!

Sounds like he has high praises from the members here. I'm leaning more toward a traditional kilt. My only concern would be that the weight would be too much for a baby.
