I started on that board, until Steve Ashton turned me on to this one. I still check in from time to time. Izzy's cool. Have bought some previously loved kilts from members there.
Don't hurt not to lurk a while. There is a lot of weirdness there, but there's also some good stuff, and a number of us here that also post there, including Ham.

Ron, Izzy and Arrogcow are the only ones from there that I know here.
I started on the UK board before I got a UK....got some size advice from Izzy, before I bought my workmans.
I don't know how I ended up here, but I like the "how to" tips on this board and I really enjoy the posting of pics.

Remember, the more normals there are in a place the less weirdness there is, and the odd will stick up more like a protruding nail head. If we don't visit a place that has greater potential for sustaining positive growth and influence, we may be letting ourselves down and missing a superb opportunity to live and set a standard that our progeny will certainly rise to meet. Question is, Does that board have the potential I speak of?

Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?

I was a regular there 'til I found XMarks. I agree, it gets pretty weird over there sometimes; I got tired of feeling like I was eavesdropping on a fetish convention, and quit lurking altogether.

I'm another UK List transplant that made his way over to XMarks. I just got tired of all the posturing and baiting that went on with that list. Officially I'm still on it, so as to make posts about Kilt Nights, etc. But I never just go and read it. I'm a person who really likes my lists, forums, etc. to be on topic. That's why I keep coming back to XMarks.

I fervently agree. When XMTS was down Monday I lurked over there. While there are a lot of enthusiastic members, there was a tone of confrontation between a number of posters that put me off. I participate here to learn as much as I can, share what little I know, and conjecture freely (identified as such). While some of the Bravehearts characterize XMTS as conservative and trad-kilt-oriented, my experience is that it is a wide open and accepting forum for people interested in all aspects of kilted life. (stepping down now from soap box).

I've not been there for a very long time, Ron. Actually, I was one of their first posters and went there on a daily basis for a few years. Guess I stopped visiting a couple of years ago when the Utilikilts community grew beyond Steven's expectations. The constant repetition of topics, the firey arms-based arguments, the immaturity, and the overpowering use of trendy/hip/deep-American dialogue (which went way over the head of this conservative European) just drove me away!
Just a few months ago, I found that I had the forum bookmarked and thought I'd take a look. It treated me as a complete newcomer, demanding my password, etc. (which I could not remember!), and so I gave up!!

not too long ago Ham, a few people on the UK board were asking about you.
A few posters had mentioned you were on this site quite a bit. HOpefully they'll pop over and say hello.

Wow! Cloves, it is nice to be missed but I don't think I'll be going back. There aren't enough hours in the day as it is!
