My first outting
I wore a kilt for the first time in public this past weekend. As I mentioned in another thread I've ordered my first kilt but my local Celtic society wanted me to pose for our Kilts Up! calendar so I wore a borrowed kilt (Royal Stewart tartan). The next day we were having a pipe jam at a local bar. [An aside - those of you from Arizona might know that our local piping group, the Arizona Highlanders, kind of took a hiatus for a bit - but they are reformed and doing regular pipe jams again in Flagstaff!) Anyway, I decided to wear the kilt again for the pipe jam. Thanks to the suggestions from this group, I didn't try and wear it on my bike - I just changed when I got there. My first time out was sort of cheating, I guess, as half the guys there were wearing kilts, but still - for me it was a big step. My normal response to attracting any kind of notice is to turn three shades of red. But it went great. Everyone commented on how nice it looked. I just wish I had seen the Hamish video before I went. I was okay, standing at the bar and walking around, but when it came time to sit I stared at that chair like I'd never seen one before. (By the way, Hamish, if you read this, our society president, Jude, says hi!)

Way to go! Now, may we see the picture too? There are lots of posts in this forum on how to sit, but if you can't find it, just ask. We'll be happy to tell you a few different ways.

I'll see if I can't sweet talk the pres into letting me have one of the proofs from the photo shoot and I'll post it here.

Whether kilted alone or with a group, it all counts toward the confidence boost.
It only gets easier from here. Sometimes I actually catch myself thinking how rediculous someone is for being shocked by a guy in a kilt. Then I remember that I remember I'm one of a rare breed

Welcome to the forum, from Scotland.
As you discovered, wearing a kilt in public is no big deal, and once you have worn it a few times you will feel perfectly at ease in your kilt.

Hey Neighbor,
You'll be fine, I've seen more kilts around Flagstaff than anyplace else I've wandered. Caught a bit of a piping jam at Heritage Square on the 12th, just before the monsoons opened up.
Glad the kilt calendar is coming back, missed it this year.
And keep on working on "the sweep." It gets easier. I'm now to the point where I almost exagerate it....same as an extra posterior flip to accentuate the swish of the pleats.

Just remember you have a great deal of AZ kilted guys here. Let me know if you want to get together sometime. I like driving up to Flagstaff. Just do not ask me to drive up there in winter!

I sometimes get different shades of red with windburn after I've been riding my putt for a long while!
Welcome to xmts. All the other Klingons here are Klingons too!
Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?
