    Oh yeh, I forgot, I've also got the material for a 4 yard box and an 8 yard tank in this one too.

    Add that to the Caledonia, Carolina, and Wallace and I'll have:
    3 Box Pleats(1 US-16 oz, 2 Caledonia pleated different 13 oz),
    1 8 yard tank (16 oz US)
    2 6 yard side pleat (1 Carolina 11/12oz cotton,1 Wallace, also cotton)

    All to an average of $50 each!!! :mrgreen: (Of course, I'll need to make then myself to keep it at that price )

    So many beautiful tartans, so little time (and money) ,

    I don't believe royal Stewart is a 'clan' tartan, correct me if I'm wrong but that's what I've been told.
    My Question is, what is the Stewart clan tartan? I had kilts from an early age, ( my mother made my first when I was a wee lad, MacThomas) and I have Scot-Irish roots growing in all directions.
    My great grandmother was a Stewart who came to this country from Sterling, Scotland and I would like to get a Stewart kilt. Royal Stewart is too much of a fashion tartan nowadays. Is black Stewart a choice?
    Also, I have and wear a Black watch kilt that I've had for years ( my mothers handi work) and just in the past 5 years or so have some people came up to me to tell me I shouldn't wear it because it's 'military'.
    Tartan/kilt police on patrol?
    Thanks for any help.

    Montgomery standard
    Black watch

    saffron ( for my irishness)

    I believe most Stewarts who are active in their Clan Society wear Stewart old/ancient clan tartan. Although, you'll proabaly see as many in Stewart hunting, black, etc... Not a Stewart myself, just going off what I've been told. I've even been told that Stewart Hunting was the official clan tartan..

    Anyway, the common tartans I like are:
    * Blackwatch
    * Hunting Stewart
    * Flower of Scotland
    * Scottish National

    Not in any order...

    FWIW, here is what the Clan Stuart Society of North America says

    "The Stewarts are not just one clan. They consist of several major branches evolving from the descendents of various High Stewarts of Scotland.

    There are several other older branches of the family. Some are Highland Clans and some are not. As a result, there are many Stewart Tartans. (Sixty-nine are officially registered and several are unofficial, using the main patterns with different background colors. "Camel Stewart" is an example.) Some tartans are general name-wide tartans that can be worn by anyone associated with the Stewarts. Others are specifically associated with a particular family or Clan (Stewart of Galloway, Stewart of Bute, Stewart of Appin, Stewart of Athol, etc.) The Hunting Stewart, is considered the National Tartan of Scotland and may be worn by any Scotsman. Protocol would dictate that only the current Royal Family would be "entitled" to wear the Royal Stewart tartan. If you have already invested in the Royal Stewart -- wear and enjoy your investment! "
    Convener, Georgia Chapter, House of Gordon (Boss H.O.G.)

    Where 4 Scotsmen gather there'll usually be a fifth.
    7/5 of the world's population have a difficult time with fractions.

    Black Watch is a military tartan, but it is also a tartan worn by three different clans. Some referred to it as the Government Sett and consider it a universal tartan.

    It still is the Government Sett, especially now that all battalions of the new Royal Regiment of Scotland are wearing it.

    Ironically, the term "universal" did not originally mean that anyone could wear it, only that it was the universal sett for the Scottish Regiments.

    Cheers,

    Todd
