Very true Rocky, I've had the same experience.
I often forget I'm kilted because being kilted is normal for me, being out of a kilt is...well, out of kilter!

Or a hot one, maybe even more so. That's one reason I carry my own folding chairs to summer festivals.

I really have to go!", I remembered that I was wearing pants and that I had to unzip. Sounds stupid, but after your brain is trained in one way of doing things for a couple years, it becomes second nature!
I had a related experience once - I walked into the organic market down the street from our house (a place where I'm known as the kilted guy, though I was wearing pants that day) and was buying some breakfast on the way to work. The cashier was kind enough to point out that my fly was open. I looked, zipped it up, and said something to the effect of "boy, there's something I don't normally have to worry about...." It got a laugh from the ladies behind the counter.

Wearing a Kilt has become so normal for me that I seldom think about it & that old habit of bending over straight legged to pick things up still gets me. Yep bend over without bending the knees & everyone behind you now knows the "Answer".

Just Tuesday I went to pick up a friend's 2 year old daughter and her shoe grabbed the bottom of my Utilikilt... My friend's mother was watching directly across from me. Don't know if I caught it in time....

I can't think of a time I forgot I was wearing a kilt, but I have had occasion when I forgot which kilt. I was in a store and someone asked "Is that your family tartan?" I had to look down because I couldn't remember which kilt I had on!

Same here. I forget I'm wearing a traditional instead of a Utilikilt and try to reach into nonexistant pockets instead of the sporran. I've also made the motion of going to a nonexistant sporran while wearing a Utilikilt. Heaven help me if I ever have to wear a pair of pants again for some reason - I'll be sweeping nonexistant pleats and forgetting to zip up.

Today, I forgot I was wearing trousers... and I was asked where my kilt was!
That's a first for me!
