**raising my hand** I admit it. I like young attractive ladies' comments about my kilt ( and whatever else they happen to comment on!)

I don't care what the rest of the world wears as long as I can wear whatever clothing I choose, and all I ask is a smile. No comments necessary. Although I don't mind them from the ladies. O'Neille

When you go into a shop & a young lady says "you have made my day seeing a man in a kilt"---WHO WANTS TO BE MAINSTREAM???

Yeah, if kilts became mainstream, I'd lose 'indie cred.'

Well I have some theories about what "mainstream" really means.
Go to your local shopping mall, sit there for 120 minutes, and count how many women you see and how many of them are wearing pleated skirts.
Take that percentage and divide by 2.
That is the largest percentage of guys you will ever see wearing kilts.
It will be the guys who love the comfort, the freedom, and the comments from the ladies and don't care if they look "different".
Do you think that is a good formula and using that guide what percentage of guys will ever wear kilts? I don't think it will ever be mainstream, however if just one percent of guys wear them it could be called commonplace, right?

Quotting pbpersson, "I don't know about anyone else but I'm not all that freaked out if a gust of wind blows my kilt up in the air and someone sees my underwear."
I'm sorry but....underwear while in a kilt?!

Some wear it, some don't but even the Regiments wear underwear when going on liberty into town.

Well.....I was trying to address the fears of men who would not wear a kilt because they might be too exposed.
However....since you brought this up....I keep thinking that if I am regimental the day will come when I:
- am walking out of a shopping mall while a mother is walking in with her young daughters
- a strong gust of wind will whip my kilt up far enough for something to be seen
- one of the daughters will be looking in just the right place at the right time to see something
- there will then be a huge scene, the police will be called, it will be in the newspapers, and kilt wearing will be forever banned in the Phoenix area
Now....I do tend to worry about things that will never happen, so go ahead and tell me this could never happen that that I am blowing this all out of proportion.

P.S. I'm only mentioning this because going regimental feels so wonderful!

The accidental exposure angst has been discussed here quite a bit...it seems that it's a common fear among those potential kilt-ees and those in the early stages of kiltliness. You know the stages of kiltliness, don't you?
Apprehension, delight, exhillaration, smugness and, finally, acceptance (which is to say that it just seems normal to be wearing a kilt and you find yourself looking at the un-kilted and thinking "...why aren't they wearing kilts?").
A search back on previous threads will no doubt turn up some of the policy statements that other members have made. For myself, the whole "going regimental" thing is just totally unpractical and unnecessary and I thank the Lord for dark colored boxer briefs that will preserve modesty in the unlikely event that the kilt ever flips up. Just as I feel that I have nothing to prove by either wearing a kilt or trousers, I don't feel that I have to "go regimental" in order to "keep it real". What anybody else does in this department is their own business...and however you decide to handle it is your own business.
