I don't know if they will be extending it or not. It sure is a nice offer though.

However even with the discount I found that other companies offer the exact same product at comparable prices.

On the site today, it states the discount has expired. I don't know if they will offer the discount again, but it sure was nice.

I was just wondering about that discount, and found this thread. The banner doesn't seem to be there anymore, and I didn't see the XMarks welcome when I clicked from a link in one of your posts.

Hmm, weird. I have AdBlock on my browser, but when it blocks something I should see a little flag denoting where the ad was. Oh well, I found that if I click in from the link in the title of this forum in the "XMarks Advertisers" list, it triggers the discount.

I wondered whether or not to start a new thread but as its related to a discount issue maybe it's OK here.

I ordered kilt #20 from Kiltstore yesterday (County Antrim 5 yard casual) and naturally took advantage of the X Marks discount.

I also had some points to redeem (worth £14.20) from previous orders but found it was a case of one or the other and if I redeemed the points I would lose the discount and it would end up costing me more. Naturally I opted for the discount!

But it did make me think I was in a Catch 22 situation as I will also get Scotweb points when the kilt is despatched which will be added to my total. It's going to take a fair few points to make it worthwhile opting to redeem them rather than take the discount on a future order. Even though I can appreciate that this might be seen as double discounting, the points have nevertheless been earned (and in my case the existing points were awarded for non-discounted orders) and it means that they might only be redeemable on small value items where they could exceed the X Marks discount saving.

I just wondered if Nick, or indeed any X Marker, had any comments to make upon this.

We of course understand it's frustrating not to be able to use Points with the X-Marks discount. But it would be commercially suicidal for us not to have such a rule against combining multiple offers, and I think most retailers do the same. Sorry!

But I can't agree that the Points are worthless otherwise. It sounds like you've already saved enough to order a lower value item totally free of charge (or get a better discount on a mid-value item). Or keep saving!! :-)

As for the discussion about our prices in general, we of course will be a little more for some items and less for others, like any retailer. (And we do price-match!) And the weak dollar doesn't help. But we try to pitch to be at the most competitive prices, like for like. And that's before the X-Marks discount etc.

However, I'd stress "like for like"!!! We have no problem with fair competition, and there are many decent firms out there. But nine times out of ten when someone asks us to price match because they've "seen it cheaper" we find the vendor in question is selling a cheap-labour knock-off using poor quality materials. The fact that you see a nice looking photo of the authentic item they've copied is immaterial, and their reassuring description of "quality" has quite likely been copied from our own site almost word for word. The worst firm responsible for this even descends to forgery of branded goods with similar packaging. This isn't just on ebay but comes from convincing looking high-profile sites that advertise prominently online (and on the High Street.) These unethical business sharks care not one bit for Scottish heritage as they destroy traditional industries. All I can say is Caveat Emptor. Rant over.
