Looking good, but in my opinion, I would loose the Tartan tie & hat I think is over powering & do not button the jacket it would look better

The casual shot looks just fine.

However I'm in agreement with Dave on this one the hat and the tie need to go and the jacket should be un buttoned. Choose a plain tie from a colour in your tartan. Plain red or green.

two other small things Your ghilles seem to climb too far up your legs. Try keeping them lower. Also I like to see the ghilles tied in a bow on the outside sides of the leg. There's nothing wrong it's just how I like to tie them
    All the Best.....David.

Welcome to the forum KOG. The advice you get here is all meant to enhance your kilt-wearing experience. It's easy to get caught up in the excitement of kilting and family herittage and order all things tartan. There's a place for all of what you have , but not all together. If you want to wear a balmoral with the kilt, I'd suggest black with a red toorie, or green. Here's a great-priced source:

The Prince Charlie is made to be worn open. Notice in you pic how it pulls when closed.

Spend some time on the Kilting Do's and Don'ts thread under Kilt advice. Believe me, I did when I joined this forum. Also, a great book for the traditional kilt wearer is "So You're Going to Wear The Kilt?" by Charles Thompson.

    Have fun with it!

    kog,

Looking at your pictures it seems apparent to me how much happier you are in the first outfit.

    by the by, Beautiful tartan!

    I absolutely agree with Pour1Malt:

as fur the bonnet, tie, an plaid... ai'd say wear ainly yin a' a time... twa arr three is TAE much...

Also, I think the bonnet is too casual for your formal outfit. Get a Balmoral or Glengarry.

All in all pretty great first pictures (far better than mine were)

    Cheers
