THAT is one of the VERY REASONS I joined here  .
I had a bad experience on another forum and became "forum shy" for 3 years . I was encouraged by a member and associate after I lurked here for 3 months, testing out the "tone" and "mood". I am VERY HAPPY here .
By the way, over moderating may be irritating at times, but IT IS WHAT KEEPS THIS PLACE CIVIL. The moderators act with reason and rationale. They are YOUR FRIEND!!!

Mark,
First of all let me say Welcome to the our wee rabble o' kilties. Glad you decided to introduce yourself.
In the brief search I did it seems that your family name (Keney) is Irish derived from the gaelic O Coinnigh. Originaly from counties Galway and Roscommon therefore go to www.district-tartans.com and check out the Galway and Roscommon tartans as well as the tartan for Connacht (or Connaught) which is the provence in which these two counties are located. All three are very nice tartans. Most of the Irish district tartans are not "officialy" adopted by the districts they represent but that does not stop most people.
Also there is an Irish American tartan available from Scottishkilts.net that several of us have and like as well as the Ireland's National available from USA Kilts at very reasonable prices (and excellent workmanship).
Travel in Scotland? Others are very correct that you cannot go wrong with information available from Pour1Malt. Check out the tourism section of his website at www.ferintosh.net as well as his and other's travelogues in the "Show us your pics" section on this board.
Another good website is www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk
I'm using those two websites to plan our trip to Scotland next year. We are planning on spending a large percentage of our trip staying a the Ferintosh Guest House and exploring the virtues of the South of Scotland.

Welcome to not wearing pants!
I wear a St. Patrick's Tartan mostly, for 2 reasons....My name is Patrick, and I like the colors in the tartan.
I tend to always wear something green anyways... so I just like the tartan. I need to get some other tartans though.
Again...Welcome!

Thanks for the welcome
Wow you guys are fabulous So many friendly and helpful responces.
I haven't had time to follow all the leads yet because I was out of town for two days, but I can't wait to research every one of them.
A couple of replies so far.
The kilts from J Higgins are great. They were made from wool tartan material I found in fabric stores locally so I can't tell you about the quality of the fabric they use, but the workmanship and wait time was great. (Just under 2 weeks once)
My log in name is a typo. It should be Keeney not Keney, I try to type too fast. It is no big deal because no one spells it right anyway. There is rumors that my Grandfather Keeney should have been a Burkhart or something like that. (Traveling english circus performers that left the child with the Keeneys)
I do like the Modern Hunting Rose colors I may just go with that. Is there any advantage of getting one while in Scotland for a wonderful souvenier? I can wait I guess and it would make it even more special.
Anyways, Thanks again for your responses.

(I really need spell check)

Besides the state tartans, there are also a few United States tartans, which can certainly be worn.
If you have any time with the military, each of the services also has a tartan you could wear.
