Several of my co-workers came to my wedding, so they saw me kilted there. The rest saw it when I wore one to the office on St. Patrick's Day.

I guess I never really realised that wearing kilts could be such a big thing. I think my co-workers are getting sick to death of kilt talk and updates on the "great accessory hunt"!

Thinking back, I didn't tell anyone I wear kilts. I just showed up at work. Not much of a big deal really (more in my mind than anyone else's).

I think I am a little worried about the idea of secrecy. Wearing the kilt is not a double life. Nothing to be ashamed of. Be bold! Kilting requires it!

Well....I told one of my co-workers and he thought it was totally cool!

As a matter of fact, he said he has seen a couple of guys around town wearing them, one in the grocery store.

Now....WHY DON'T I EVER SEE ANYONE WEARING THEM???

I didn't think it was a big deal for me to tell my co-workers that I wear the kilt. I have worn my kilts in front of them and none of them said anything bad about it. Also, what I wear in my private time, it is my business. Why would they care?

    Not to worry Phil,

Arizona is one of the United States...freedoms are pretty common...and Phoenix is a wild crazy town - or was during the thirty very odd years I lived there. I've been visiting Phoenix kilted for over two years...nary a hassle.

Up here in Page (population 7,800) I started wearing my first kilt, a UK camo, around town right off. Ran into my CEO at the hardware store and he freaked...with laughter...and curiosity...probably better there than at work. But wasn't long before I was showing up at company afterhours functions kilted, then to work kilted, now kilted daily for over a year.

I finally figured out that it was me that had to get used to being out and about kilted...other folks don't much care...just a surprise treat for them.

    Kilt up and enjoy.

    Cool

First a Halloween thing at work in a Sportkilt. St. Pat's day in a green tartan. Tartan Day in a Red Stewart. Red polo, white hose and a US Navy tartan for the 4th. Then went to a picnic function in a tan Survival and no one really cared; on my own time anyway. Happy hour with co-workers for a retiree in a denim UK; got compliments from the hostesses ! Then started a couple of times a week with AKs and UKs. Recommend being seen wearing a tartan kilt the first few times. Then break out the UKs...

All of my co-workers know... because I've worn kilts to office parties and trade shows. It is just not an issue because I don't make it an issue. They have all seen me at one time or another. It's never been a big deal.

... Thus far when I have told friends about this they were so shocked they didn't know what to say.
You're making this sound like it's some kind of venerial disease.

... People generally just don't know how to handle this - you would think I was breaking the law or something the way they act.
I've found that if you let on that it's not a big deal to you, it shouldn't be a big deal to them.

... So, I don't know if I want to rock the boat....but they are bound to find out sometime, aren't they? Then again....maybe they never need to know?...
Why?... Do these certain individuals intimidate you?

... Is it better to lead a double life?
    Never.

... Oh...and I'm not Scottish, these are Utilikilts...
    Your point being?

It's... um... not great, no. I'd much prefer to sit... heck, in our data center. I sort of let it go because I am still getting used to not being a consultant. I am a full time employee now with the organization that was my last client as a consultant. But I'm still sort of in the mindset of "anything the client wants, they get," after 10 years of consulting it's tough to shake it. But hey, the pay is good, the benefits and security are great.

All my coworkers are mad because I can't wear my kilt to work.
