    Have any vendor recommendations????

I'm a newbie kiltie with only one (soon it will be several) kilt purchased from Utilikilt at a street faire in Chicago. I hadn't realized the culture around kilts until I started shopping online for additional pieces. Needless to say, I've been pleasantly surprised at the openmindedness of most kilties. If the comfort isn't reason enough to wear a kilt, I'm quickly learning that the community is!!
At any rate, I've imagined/heard about how a good purchase can go bad. I can understand the reluctance to handle the returns/complaints aspect of ordering a kilt and I'd like to circumvent those issues. Basically, if anyone can offer suggestions on what/where are great places to purchase kilts, I'd greatly appreciate the input. I'm primarily interested in hipsters. As most of us are, I'm on a budget that doesn't allow for too much extravagance, so quality is a top priority.
Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I understand that the labeling on the kilt is important as well, but what else should I consider in my hunt to purchase kilts? I'm apprehensive with shopping online, but the internet seems to be my most abundant resource of retailers; I'd still prefer to have in person meetings w/ a kilt salesperson. Are there any in or around Chicago?
Thanks again, guys, for all the help.

    Stillwater

I love Stillwater Kilts as the very best kilts for the price period.

You can get a better kilt but be ready to pay much much more.

I have 7 kilts in the closet and my next will be another Stillwater. Probably a Black Watch.

    Any of the sponsors here

I recommend any of the sponsors here. I have five USA Kilts and they are great, the service and quality of work are second to none. I met Steve from Freedom Kilts and Robert from R-Kilts and saw thier work. Both of these men make a kilt I will be proud to add to my collection someday.

Depending on what you are looking for will depend on the best kilt maker for you, but if you find one that you like ask here and we will be glad to help.

Tell us if you are looking for traditional style tartan types or contemporary non-tartan types as this will make a difference as well.

I spent 45 years living in the Chicago area, that's my birthplace. Do you mind me asking where about in Chicago you are?

    Welcome to the asylum.

I'll second the recommendations for USA Kilts and Stillwater kilts. I have both.

Don't rule out Matt Newsome at the Tartans museum. He makes great box pleated kilts

    You mentioned that you are:
    primarily interested in hipsters.
Most of us here have been talking about more traditional kilts, not "Hipsters".

It looks as if you are seeking more contemporary styles, we do have kilt makers here that do some of that, I suggest you look at Renegade Kilts, Neo-Kilts, and the like.

As you can see, different people have different recommendations.

Take a look in the X Marks Advertisers section and you will see a pretty broad selection of kilts.

    Welcome to X Marks.
