I have worn liners under my kilt hose when it has been snowing, and very cold while standng and watching the local St. Patricks Day parade. It keeps you nice and warm. I have used my boot liners that i wear for snow shoeing or xcntry skiing.

Having gone bare legged all summer (in sandals) I'm reluctant to go straight back to full wool hose and have been looking at/experimenting with knee highs/trouser socks. These are much lighter weight, and very much cheaper than traditional hose (a big plus for me). I find that with a 70% cotton to 28% nylon, 2% elastane/lycra mix, although they are fairly opaque they do have a bit of a sheen which gives the game away (in my opinion). Does anyone know of a good source of light weight (i.e. cool), cheap, opaque, matte long socks that would look good as kilt hose?
