    M$W?

Everytime you use a Microsoft product, Bill Gates does something to a puppy that's illegal just about everywhere - even in Thailand.

I edit things all day. I've come to the conclusion that M$'s lousy spelling and grammar suggestions are the at the root of at least half of the ridiculous mistakes I come across.

A simple scan of what's been written before it's sent off for public consumption would certainly be in order for some folks - by no means limited to those on this board!

People just don't read enough these days to write well. SWMBO's a teacher, and not only can her students barely cobble together something coherent, but the paperwork she receives from the powers that be tends to be riddled with, well, incomprehensible riddles.

    /rant off

I won't criticize anyone's spelling or grammar, because I certainly make enough mistakes of my own. Most of mine, however, come from typing too fast and not reviewing what I have written. If I do notice a mistake, I will go back and edit the post.

I feel that using proper spelling and grammar is a form of written good manners. You do it out of respect for the reader.

OK as long as we're on this, don't get caught in a trap by "a rat" It's "separate", not "seperate"

    You're quite right, Rex.

I saw a company truck for a financial firm yesterday with "your" instead of "you're". That and "it's" rather then "its" are definitly common.

Oh, THANK YOU, thank you, Scott for drawing attention to that one. It has been driving me crazy for months, if not years! I'd have commented myself but was afraid of becoming known as a racist!

Another that really gets my goat is the common reference to the "Carmel" Workman's Utilikilt. For Heaven's sake, 'Carmel' is, or was, a brand name for food/drink products from Israel. The Utilikilts are "Caramel" - it is a colour!

    OK that's it. Rant over!
