OHHHHHhhhh, the south. I live in TN, and believe me when I tell you that I get every odd look one could get. It's really ironic, since this region was settled largely by the Scots-Irish ... but that was nearly some 3 centuries ago.
You may get quoted a line from the Bible about it being a sacrilege to dress in women's clothing, too. Be prepared to not care what they think and be glad you know better. ; )

Welcome from a TN boy stranded in Germany. I'll see what kind of comments I get when I'm on leave when I move. Should be interesting.

I thought I would get that when I showed up at a local coffee shop where a group from my church was congregating. Alas, no Biblical rebuke, which I would have been ready for. The pastors daughter scrambled for her camera, hoping for "blackmail" pictures. I think she was disapointed when I willingly posed for her. I heard another girl saying to a friend that her brothers were all too "manly" to wear a kilt. Good times :-)

Welcome aboard from Columbus, OH! I was privileged to go to my sister's wedding in Greenville (at Clemson U) in May of last year and wore a Clark Ancient tartan kilt to the wedding and my khaki UK around town and campus a bit, and no one really said anything, good or bad. Got a few looks, but really it was no different than anywhere else I'd been.
