    I feel so culturally deprived here in California after seeing these pictures. Of course there are many beautiful things here in California...take my future wife for instance ;-)

    Oh man, what a dream location strategically, you can see the advancing armies miles away! (*Officer thinking*)

    In Finland we have forest EVERYWHERE so all our castles are built on river islands...

    That's really interesting AckZel. One of the theories for the name Hume is that it comes from the old Danish word Hulme, which means 'RIVER ISLAND' !

    However, it is almost certainly from the old Scots Gaelic for 'of the Cave', which was the designation of a cadet branch of the MacDuff Earls of Fife, who were known to have been granted lands in this part of Scotland by King Malcolm 111 after his defeat of Macbeth in 1054.

    My Grandmother is a Hume! I'll have to show her these photos...and buy a Hume kilt (the tartan is so beautiful!)
