Wow, this is another old thread dredged up from the past. I have a kilt woven from fabric from DC Dalgliesh & Sons in a box pleat from Matt Newsome. Very nice fabric.

Keep in mind how old threads are when you dredge them up.

    cloth quality

The only weaver that has disappointed me is Strathmore.
13 oz cloth, as far as I know, it feels thick and warm, but turned out not to be solid enough to take the weight of an ordinary kilt pin. Holes appeared quite quickly.
I prefer the feel and look of Lochcarron and House of Edgar, but have no complaints about the cloth of my Kinloch Anderson breacan, presumably their own weave.

I would actually have to disagree with that. I have had two kilts made from the Marton Mills PV fabric, and one 16 oz Handsewn made from the Marton Mills Jura range wool. While the PV may look like wool from a distance, any closer than 15 feet and you will see a big difference in the look of the tartan and material. This likely has a lot to do with the weight of the materials as the PV is 11oz and the wool is alot heavier at 16oz. PV has many virtues, but after having worn PV kilts for almost 4 years now, I find it pretty easy to spot.

Having said that, the PV is way softer to the touch and is a joy to wear, I just prefer the wool for fit, feel, swing and weight these days.

    wnat the scoop?

    Lochcarron charges for samples

Pricing would be $3.50 for strome (16 oz) swatches, $2.50 for Braeriach (13 oz), $2.25 for Reiver (10 oz) and $2.00 for Spring Weight (8 oz). Swatches are approximately 12" square - they do vary from time to time, depending on what is on hand. has a location in the states didnt want to pay for what the other mills had (boils down to customer sevice)

    Marton Mills

sent swatches to me for free all labeled with weight and tartan
large nice pieces mounted on card stock 8.5x11 sent from scotland less than 2 weeks

    House of Edgar
also sent free swatches much smaller no label as to weight or tartan sent from scotland less than 2 weeks as well

Strathmore unknown i will have to check!
