    New Kilter in Central CA

    hi folks,
I live part of the year in Fresno CA (while school is in session) and in Pasadena the rest of the time. I design theatre (scenery and lighting) and teach the same. I was first introduced to the idea of modern guys in kilts at a theatre convention where a group of theatre technicians all in kilts. Since then i wanted one, but could never afford one. Last year I got a new job, and for many reasons needed to learn to sew. My first patterning/sewing project was a kilt (and it doesn't look bad -- in fact considering I had no idea what I was doing it looks pretty darn good). I've made one more for myself since then, and I have fabric for a third. I have a pattern drafted for a fourth (the fabric I have won't go with the pattern I came up with). I'm debating if (when I have time in the next few weeks) I want to buy more fabric or make something out of the fabric I have.
I think I'm going to wear my kilt to work on haloween to introduce my co-workers to it.

    Cheers
    Chris

Re: your comment above... I was just wondering if you really want your kilt to be specifically associated with Halloween... ergo, do you want your kilt to be taken seriously or as a costume?

A sober second thought... perhaps Thanksgiving instead?

    Cheers,

Welcome aboard from Georgia. The next thing you need to do is to post pictures of the kilts you made. Allways nice to see more kilt makers.

    Chris,

Welcome aboard. This is a fun and informative forum (sometimes even at the same time ). I believe switchblade5984 is up in your neck of the woods in scenic Fresno. His Dad (Michael Steinrok) is one of us Bay Area area kilties.

    Cheers

    Blu,
as some of my co-workers know I wear a kilt outside of work, it won't be associated with a costume. The bigger issue is that part of my job is running the scene shop for the theatre department -- and that involves climbing, paint, dirt, and other ickyness. I'm not sure how the kilts I've built will stand up to that (and ofcourse their is the climbing thing). Halloween happens to fall on a tuesday when the shop is not opened (this term) so me wearing the kilt will either be a tuesday or a friday, but I want to get the new pattern built because i think it will be very low inpact on the others in the building.
As to those who want to see the kilt i have some picutures but I made the mistake of wearing a shirt that is the same color as the kilt (black) so they look like I'm wearing a dress. but here are 2 pics

    Cheers

I will also have to watch for kilt events in San Fran, as it doesn't take much to get there especially if I have the day off (I hate driving back after dark ... but its a big city there must be hotels somewhere )
Thanks for the tip about switchblade being in Fresno, i'll keep an eye out.
    Cheers

    Chris,

Monkey@Arms (aka Jake) is trying to organize a S.F. event for the Bay Area Kilties. Our regular get together is the Devil's Canyon MicroBrewery in Belmont on the last Friday night of the month.

Good luck on C.d. B. ! Whose translation (s) are you using?

    Cheers

    Chris,

    Greeting from the foggy Coastside.

Make yourself a kilt in the brightest red tartan you can find and you'll be a popular guy during Fresno's football season.

We have a monthly gathering in Belmont (about 10 miles south of San Francisco.) And the Loch Lomond games (http://www.lochlomondceltic.org) are coming up on October 7th.

    Hope to meet you soon.

    Kent
