Under the circumstances, O'Neille, and considering the distance you and Phil would have to travel, it might be best (although regrettable) to forget the whole thing.
My original hope was purely to have an opportunity to join in with an already existing Kilts Night in the area but, it seems, such things do not happen in Palm Springs! There is absolutely no way that I can get something special organised from here nor, I believe, should I have to. My hosts in Palm Springs do not frequent bars (so they tell me but I believe them) and so they do not know any one from any other, and would be unable to recommend a suitable meeting place for even a small 'rabble'.
Unlike my previous trips to North America, this one is not kilt-related and is planned as a 'chilling-out-beside-the-pool-every-day' sort of holiday (vacation) - which I SO need! Our hosts have planned, or are planning, a few outings in the immediate area I believe, so maybe I should ask them to resurrect their plans for the 14th October which, I was informed, they need to book well in advance.
I am sorry but, from my lifetime experience of these small islands of Great Britain I just did not, nor do I still really, appreciate the massive distances between centres of civilisation over there. Nor was I aware that there appear to be no kilts in Palm Springs!!!
My thoughts therefore are that, in the words of the classic song, "Let's call the whole thing off!" Then we all know where we are.

We Bay Area Kilties would have loved to have met you and shaken your hand (and toasted your health). I'm the most southern of us and it still is a minimum 7 hour drive to Palm Springs from our home. Have a great trip and perhaps the next time your travels bring you to sunny California you will have the opportunity to see the Northern part of our state (S.F., Golden Gate bridge, wine country, Monterey Bay Aquarium, etc. etc.).
Have a safe trip!

Someone once said the difference between England and America is that Americans think 100 years is a long time, and the English think 100 miles is a long way.

It's regrettable but in this case I belive you are correct. It is a long run for a short slide for most of us. Some other time then. O'Neille

Oy
Until Yaish brought it up I'd forgotten the Seaside Games, them Camerons will have my hide if I don't show up. Geographically the opposite direction from you and your friends Hamish. I would have liked to meet you as I've heard so much from so many about the One and Only.
Lots of kilties will be assaulting amtrak that weekend.

Well, it looks like I chose a bad time and a bad location! I am disappointed of course, but there will be other opportunities sometime ahead.

I'd thought about getting a contingent of Bay Area kilties together to drive it en masse, but I'd have to one-day it...down there, party, and back in one day.

I'm sorry to see that this is falling through. Ham, If this is going to be a "sit around the pool" kind of vacation, maybe some SoCal guys could do a "short notice visit" some time?
Just something for the SoCal guys to keep in mind; Palm Springs is only about 100 miles away. The way we drive out here, that's only an 1 1/2 hour drive. ;)
