Does it have letters patent from the monarch? Then it's a cathederal city (town) along with Dunblane et al!

Anyone recognize the tartan they are wearing?

I believe I read that it was the Maple Leaf, somewhat fitting since they're from Canada (though not originally). You can read a little about them here.

And evidently it is Oban.

I don't watch WWE, but thought I would check out the Highlanders as they came from Canada.

To my knowledge St Andrews does not require letters patent as its status predates the union of the crowns in any case and it was an ecclesiastical foundation with a cathedral.

The monarch only needs to confer city status on places which do not have an ecclesiastical cathedral foundation of ancient origin. These are usually places which have grown since the nineteenth century. There are many cities with continuing ecclesiastical foundations which have never had letters patent.

Even when the ecclesiastical foundation is no longer there the status remains in custom and usage.

People talk about "St Giles Cathedral" in Edinburgh. It has not been a cathedral since the 17th century when the Presbyterian Scots threw out Archbishop Laud's prayer book. Its correct name is "The High Kirk of St Giles" now. Yet it was St Giles which gave Edinburgh its city status.

OK St Andrews is a small city, they exist in Wales too and are inherited from their ecclesiastical status not from their size.

Britain's smallest city is St David's here in Wales.

There are two "types" of city, cathederal city and, I suppose, a legal city. Oban has a cathederal but isn't officially a city. All very confusing. Here's the section of wikipedia about city status in Scotland. Stirling, Scotland's newest city, has never had a cathederal.

They are MacHummels at CCK. The hardest thing making kilts for these guys is the need to stay on but can't have buckles. He had to make them out of PV to be easily cleaned and with velcro instead of the usual 2 or 3 buckels.
He's made quite a few for them and is always talking to them about what to do next.

Regarding Oban - it has two cathedrals, the Episcopal St John's which is 19th century and the Catholic St Columba's which is 1930s.

Neither is based therefore on an ancient ecclesiastical foundation from "time immemorial" and therefore neither confers city status on Oban.

Stirling is a city by letters patent.

Those guys are the nicest couple of guys, they worked hard to get where they are and I very thankful that they took a chance on a guy they bumped into .
