Returned to York from Dumfries region last night, and walked in to my local for my stay.

    Immediate (friendly) comments:
Hey, we're in England - not Scotland! Kilts are for North of the border!!

    My response:
Be it so. If you change the name of this pub from Tam O'Shanter (yes, that's the name of the pub... hehe) to John Bull, I'll go find my trousers.

    General response:
Good one, you got us there.

    Landlady:
First drink compliments of tam O'Shanter

    Gentleman at bar:
Second drink on me. I'm Scottish, and you make me proud.

What a classic name for a pub south of the border!

I'd say you had them over a barrel there!

    The saga goes on...

Last night we celebrated a 40th birthday, and swung by The Gallery night club in York. So far a day without incident - until I got to the bar, that is.

A bloke kept staring at me through the crowd along the bar. After a minute or so, he came over and said "God bless you" and pulled up his sleeve to unveil a tattooed Scottish flag. Ten minutes later, another guy comes up, says cheers - and "God bless you, you make me proud!"
