    Monarch of the Glen Stave

Not to detract from MacSimoin's beautiful wolf's head walking cane, I thought you might also be interested in the 'find' I recently made in a local charity shop, and at a bargain price too!

It is a rather fine, if somewhat heavy, stave with a 'Monarch of the Glen' stag's head carved into the top. I think the wood is White Oak which is what obviously makes it heavy......

The stave is 5'5" from base to top of the antlers, and the tips of the antlers are 5" apart. The carving accounts for the top 8" of the piece.

Here is the head in close-up:

The bargain price? £15.00, or roughly US$28.50. Too good an opportunity to miss.

The question now is, when and where am I going to use it? I am open to (polite) suggestions!

    Hamish,

Another wonderful walking stick! You have the perfect day wear outfit to go with your new aquisition. You only need to head to some historic English garden to enjoy and (improve on) the scenery. Careful with those antlers though, I imagine they are delicate.

    Cheers

    What a find Ham!

That would be a perfect walking stick if you do any hiking in Palm Springs - should you encounter a rattlesnake just drop the head down between you and the snake and it would focus on the antlers instead of you....of course backpeddling is also a good idea when you encounter a rattlesnake.

    VERY nice!

On another note, your kilt didn't escape my notice. I guess we know which is your "favorite" or at least at the moment.

Very nice staff! Between the outfits, the locations, and the accessories you're making me very envious. As I've said in other threads, I think this is going to become an expensive obsession for me!

It is a very nice looking stave. I wouldn't be able to use a stave as I stand 5'6".

I don't think you need a reason to walk with it. If you are going for a walk, take it with you. Or you can use it when you are visit different gardens or garden shows.
