To my eyes the jacket pulls out the green in the Royal Stewart, so I think it goes great. If not, maybe it's just my monitor?

IMHO, the Royal Stewart would look better with a black jacket, but that is only my personal opinion.

I have seen a few bottle green Argyll jackets worn with tartans that are predominantly green like the picture on the top.

Red and green look very nice together*. It will look a Christmas colored. If this is mentioned reply that you "try to keep Christmas in your heart the whole year through"

Yes indeed these will work well togather because of the green in Royal Stewart.

Smile Match the jacket to kilt colour

I think, that if you match the jacket colour to a colour in the kilt, you're fine. I own a MacIntosh hunting that is of course, predominantly green, but there is navy blue in it. To not overdue the green of the kilt, I bought a navy blue argyll jacket for it. Also, I was a commissioned naval officer, and that warranted a navy jacket. I wear navy, green, off-white or cream-coloured hose depending on the occasion and time of day; dark for formal/evening and lighter for day wear.
