If rodeo clowns can wear dresses, you can wear a kilt to class.
America is still a free country and kilts are a functional and symbolic form of freedom.
If bulls can hang free, so should bullriders.

"I'll have a kilt please, a nice hand sewn tartan, 16 ounce Strome. Oh, and a sporran on the side, with a strap please."

My Son,
Glad you showed up. I was up at Ramstein so didn't see this till this evening. There were lots of our reservists that saw the UK for the first time yesterday. Most just looked and went on while a couple asked questions. Of course the MAJ was giving me a hard time, but I was egging it on part of the time. At supper we met two female NCOs from the lab that we knew and got different reactions from both. One laughed and said what is that you're wearing, to which one of the SPC said "duh, it's a kilt". The other stood next to me after supper and tugged on a pleat and asked what was the occasion. My response was "uh, it's Tuesday, it's comfortable, and I can". No one else in Chili's seemed to notice. So, remember it's mind over matter, if you don't mind it don't matter.
You've always gone your own way regardless of what most folks think and with no care for what they think. Just relax and do what you need to do that day and things will be fine. Remember, most of your friends are from there in KS and have never seen anything other than jeans, and most likely an original thought would incapacitate them. They'll adjust, one way or the other.
Relax and don't over think it. Have fun.

I had 2 college girls stop by the other day to try to sell me some magazine subscriptions to help pay for an internship to London. Anyway, when I came to the door they both very excitedly exclaimed "You're wearing a Kilt, that is so hot". After the usual questions about my under bits, I asked what they would think if a guy their age showed up on campus in a kilt. The answer was the same "hot". With all the compliments about the kilt and my bike race shaved legs, I had to watch the wallet and not buy to many mags.
Long story but - Wear your Kilt, hold your head high.

hot thread!
i have a "girl friend" i see on occasion, she's the only one who asks me not to wear one, after thinking about this, i have to ask myself, why do i ask ANYONES permission?
wear what you like, you'll find a style you like..and you'll find a special someone who likes it too.
college is hard, i know, but with all the rastas, goths, grungies, jocks, nerds, and joe college frats, ( i haven't even touched the vamps or the jedi trekkies!)
a celt or two, wouldn't hurt, and you won't hurt either..
remember;
one kilt is a dance.
two kilts are a clan.
three kilts are a parade.
four kilts are a scottish border uprising.
a simple " these are man clothes" to a guy is a proper comeback, especially around girls...
what you say to the girls, is YOUR witty invention.
just let us know which line works best..
WEAR THEM ! be proud! be FREE!

Well, despite the less than enthusiastic responses from my friends, I can't help but smile when I think of how all the people that walk by me this week are gonna act next week. Now the trick will just convincing someone to take my picture...
P.S. Pops, the store down the street can get Scapa. I'm set for next year.

Kind of like my signature below, hey? That Dr. Suess was quite the philosopher.
You're a lucky guy to have a dad like yours, JR.
