GI Joe was alright, but my favorite action figure was a knight with a horse and all the armor and weapon acoutrements...

I for some reason missed this thread, but I think I deserve to 'cry in my soup" a little about my Star Wars collection.

I sold my Star Wars collection to buy kilts from USAkilts, Stillwater, Scottishkilts.net, and hose from Penny's of Thunder Bay and another company. Oh, and Toyota Motors Company, as I paid off my pick-up in addition to the kilt purchases.

    GI Joe rocked!

Last year I was (hooded) Cobra Commander for Hallowe'en. I spent about 2 months making the costume down to the minute detail.

Remember that Destro was a Scottish nobleman and was forced to wear his mask through some curse from an ancestral battle or something like that. I forget the details as it was many years ago. Perhaps someone here can shed light on it? Too bad they didn't make a kilted Destro! Hmmm...

Here's the story from one of the filecards:

"One of Destro's ancestors started the family fortune by selling arms to both sides during the English civil war. One ancestor was caught in the act by Cromwell's men, and was made to wear an uncomfortable steel mask. (They had to punish him, but they still wanted his weapons.) Since that time, the lairds of the Destro clan have worn the mask with pride and passed it down to succeeding generations."

I thought I remembered a Scottish castle in the comics. Check out the wikipedia article (yep, it's official, they will do an article on anything) about Destro http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destro

This thread makes me want to break out my old GI Joe collection. I still have quite a few of the smaller action figures and vehicles in storage. When moving, for some unknown reason, my parents let my little bro play with my old GI Joe space shuttle. He didn't get the nicknames "Beast" and "Hudson the Destroyer" for no reason...

I know the owners of Reliks well great guys . I myself am a sword collector I really want these swords mainly because as a kid my Storm shadow and Snake eyes figures always fought and to have these swords would just make it all complete. But my favourites will always be Star Wars ,GI JOE, Transformers, and Robotech. I stiil have 250 Star Wars figures in the package and one original 1977 Darth Vader in the package Oh what I had to do to get that one.

I was always a Micronauts fan.

I did, however, have an original 12" GI Joe (pre-Kung fu Grip), and a jeep for him. My brother (who also had the original) and I used to tease our younger brother about how they shrunk the GI Joes for his age group. We told him that they had those mean looks on their faces because they were so much smaller.

My folks had a talent for coming up with very different action figures for us, though: I had an Ivanhoe, King Richard, some signers of the Declaration of Independence, all sorts of stuff like that. Wish I knew where they got those.
