Fat Guy in a skirt! A better photo now

This is difficult to do. Here I am in all my glory. I have a degenerative back disease called Ankylosing Spondylitis, which causes my back to curve. I have lost 5" in height in 20 years. This is the reveal, just out of the box and thrown on. I think I am too squat to wear a kilt. The bottom of the kilt is at the centre of my knee, but my legs are cocked back. Please be brutally honest. My thought is I should not wear a kilt.

    Thanks
    Kevin

    Kevin,

The length works for me. Looking at your photograph what strikes me is how narrow the belt looks and the lack of hose. I think you will look (and feel much better) with kilt hose and a wide 2+" kilt belt with sporran. I would trade the t shirt for another with some of the matching colors of the kilt (or better yet a polo shirt). The most important accessory to have with your kilt is confidence. You look fine, keep that thought in your head for your next picture.

    Cheers

Yes, here you will learn that accessorizing is the key. Every man has the ability to look great in a kilt. Good for you, its great to see humility in this day and age. You are brave, asking for honest opinions on the 'net.

Think of the Scots warriors who came home from war bent and crippled. I doubt they worried about how they looked, and neither should you. It's about confidence, honoring your heritage, and comfort. Kilt on!

I fitted plenty of abundantly sized men into Utilikilts (options include the double beer gut cut), and think they looked great, as do you. I second the socks suggestion. Kilt on!

    Best regards,

Unless you're used to it, it does take a bit of nerve to step forward onto center stage. Butterflies ar felt by the best of 'em.

A touch of steam to release the wrinkles and it should lookk fine.

Horsefeathers!! Kilts look better on men of substance than trousers!

As for length... I see many kilts - including those worn by pipers - below the knee. It also seems to be the length of choice by the utility kilt folks.

... My thought is I should not wear a kilt....
Sorry to disagree... but my thought is that you should wear a kilt... and wear it proudly!

Wear it with pride and don't worry about what others think.

The kilt looks fine on you. Remember there were a lot of short and squat Scotsmen who wore them!

I hear it often from men with more "robust" body types that they don't think the kilt will look good on them. Nonsense! A good kilt can actually help make you look slimmer -- and one thing that people forget is that kilts are *tailor made to fit you*. This means no matter what your body type, it should fit well and look good.

I made a kilt last year for someone with a 62" waist and recieved the most glowing email from him when he recieved it. He has trouble finding clothing that fits well, but this kilt was made just for him and fit like a glove. He was comfortable, and looked good.

Never let body type be an excuse not to wear the kilt!

    Aye,
    Matt
