NorCal X Marks Burns Supper: plan now!
That's right, the NorCal contingent of X-Marks is going to have a Burns Supper.
We think we have a location (in Pacifica...a little south of San Francisco, on the coast) and we're finalizing a date. It will either be Saturday January 20th or Saturday February 3rd, 2007 so save those dates if you can.
Cost will be minimal, like $10-$12 a person to cover the cost of the hall and some consumeables. It will be pot-luck, at least to some degree, and it will also be "our clean-up", too. Hey, that's the price of goin' cheap. I think Burns would approve. Details on that will be forthcoming.
Yes, there WILL be haggis, and if we can get Piper George and Gwenlass to come up from Santa Cruz for it, George has said he'd be delighted to pipe in the Haggis!
Dress will be as formal as you can stand. Personally, I'm wearing my best kilt and Eton jacket. If you're messing around with the idea of getting something very formal, well, now you have an event to wear it to! Our "best guess" is that we'll have between 24-30 people attending (we'll be inviting the Devils Canyon Brewery folks, naturally).
Those that want to recite Burns (or other Scottish authors) poems will likely be given the opportunity to do so, and of course the lads will toast the lasses, and the lasses shall reply! If we're lucky we *might* (no promises, but I'm working on it) even have a small band for a few tunes for dancing.
Mark your calendars now, and watch this space!

Bump
We still need to hear from the rest of the Bay Area Kilties.
I think this would be loads of fun. I believe there is a hotel within easy walking distance from the hall in Pacifica for those who prefer to avoid a tiring drive home.
If this is going to happen we need to get planning now.
Cheers

Well, I've penciled both dates on to my calendar, and would love to attend, but a lot can happen between now and Feb. So put me down as a definite maybe.
If we are going to have haggis (which I actually like) we'll need taters 'an neeps, not to mention lots of whisky.
Best regards,
Jake
