Well, a government job isn't so bad, look at the secondary bennies - good insurance and retirement.

I hate it that you can't find a job close-to-home, but look at the bright side. If you do take a travelling position, think of all the X-markers you can meet for kilt nights around the world!
Cheers,

Dreams become reality...sooner or later.
Keep dreaming!
Feh. If we're talking about dreams, I should be a best-selling comic book artist with a lovely (kilted) husband and 2.3 exceedingly freckled moppets instead of underemployed, haven't had a date in months and the only male that breathes heavily down my neck is my pony Prince.
Trust me you didn't want to be a waitress. Best of luck in your search for gainful employment.
I've been a waitress before. It didn't bother me.
I had to look around and see if you had built a home on my 88 acres. I;ve got the chickens as well as 6 ducks and 8 geese. Morning feeding time is kind of noisy around here. Anyhow, good luck on the job. I do hope you are able to find something closer. I know I'd miss all of my fowl, amd the Virginia farmland where I live.
Yeah, we have seven chickens that follow me around the homestead begging for black sunflower seeds.

True! I'll have to post my sched so we can plan kilt nights.

Hmmm, got me to thinking....being olde like I am would be a good cover for an air marshall.
Kilts would allow for a quick draw...and who'd suspect a kilted passenger was an air marshall...
Been a cop and have a clean record.
Been shot at and shot back a bunch.
But dang, as much as I've flown over the years I still pretty much hate it and of course its gotten worse with the sardine seating. Suppose the air marshalls have to go through the same security that civilians do to maintain their cover.
I'd probably wind up shooting a TSA drone out of sheer anger....

Well, I got a conditional offer of employment for the Air Marshall job; if I pass the background check (no reason why I shouldn't) and a medical screen (again, no reason why not), I've got it.
I also start my Japanese language lessons next Wednesday (yay), so things are looking up. I just get a little depressed sometimes.
I did want to get out of the law enforcement/military line of work, because being in the line of fire tends to be very . . . . wearing. I'm starting to realize it's not something I can hide; the other day I said something along the lines of 'I'm a woman; I'm too delicate for that kind of thing' and got a round of hysterical laughter. I was told delicate flowers don't carry firearms to work, work in law enforcement or have tattoos all over.
I guess I'm a sheepdog.
So, do you want to go out sometime?
Indiana from Michigan's kind of a haul for date, isn't it? Of course, if you ever find yourself in Indy, send me a messsage.

Glad to hear the job prospects are looking up.

Maybe four or five hours. Kilt loving redheads are worth the drive. Seriously, though, if I find myself heading that way I will let you know. Conversely, if you get the job and have a layover scheduled in Detroit or Lansing....

Hate to be a downer, but a quick background check can take six months (that's the quickest I've heard of, anyway). I also know guys whose backgrounds took over two years.
And you mentioned having had LASIK in another thread - if it was less than two years ago, they can be persnickety about that too.

I know some delicate-looking Customs and Immigration Inspectors, Border Patrol Agents, and Army K-9 handlers. As for tattoos ... I can't talk about that in public ...
(see avatar) Arf!
Good luck with the Air Marshalls. And if you're ever snowed-in in Buffalo, or just passing through, give me a call.

Good luck with the job application. Just make sure you get a a lap top if you don't have one so you can keep up with the gang here.

Girlfriend, job-hunting sucks, don't it?
Oyyy.
Next time you fly into SF you gotta date even if I AM married and don't want any moppets. Matter of fact you might find yourself surrounded by adoring kilted men if you pick your time right when you fly in.
