white to match my shirt...it is a Tuxedo affair, and I want to be ever-so sure that I don't look like any of the penquins...

Essentially, the flash color depends on the rest of the outfit. With a saffron (I assume the brownish, common tone, rather than the more correct btight yellow meaning of the term), black would probably look best, out of the "common color" flashes. With a white shirt and black PC jacket, white socks/hose and black flashes are probably the best combo, setting off the saffron of the kilt, framed in black and white.

I wonder how saffron flashes would look and where to get them, if they are even made?

I think flashes should have the same colour as the kilt when it's a plain kilt.

When you wear a tartan kilt, tartanflashes or plain flashes matching one of the prominent colors of the tartan.

When you wear, diced, argylle or tartan hose, plain flashes (tie-them-yourself) matching a striking color of the tartan, but not the most prominent color of the hose when possible....so they will stand out nicely.

I don't think black flashes are a good choise (Sorry Bob...we clash again )

PS....Maybe a good idea for those who order a plain colored kilt...ask for some spare material or a swatch, so you can make matching flashes yourself.

    saffron...

I would be inclined to follow the example of the various Irish Regiments of the British Army:

    Dark hose, saffron flashes.

    Cheers,

As the question was asked, He has the option of the three sets he currently has. The Kilt came from Stillwater, and they do not sell scrap fabric or Saffron flashes (at least not yet), So I think the black is the best candidate.

If...... You've got a chance to get to a large fabric store, In your Saffron of course, you may find someone to help match the color, and make your own!

I agree with Todd, the dark hose with saffron flashes look great!

Given the choices, black with no question. However, I do like the look of dark hose with the saffron flashes.

Black PC, black vest, black tie, black flashes. I may be wrong (and will definitely told so if I am), but I think the black flashes help connect what's worn above the kilt to what's worn below it.
Given the option, I would go with saffron flashes, though.
