And there are a ton of dress tartans in medium to light weight that are commonly used for dancers but could be worn by anyone. These include the Dress Purple Cunningham, Dress Purple Stewart, Dress Lavender Longniddry, Dress Purple Earl of Skye, Purple and White Erskine, Dress Purple Lennox, Dress Purple Milne, Dress Purple MacPherson, Dress Purple MacRae, Dress Pride of Scotland, and Dress Tweedsmuir
I have swatches that I can scan, if you're interested in seeing any of these.

purple tartan
I have a Stirling/Bannckburn district tartan which has a lot of purple. In fact my son wore it as part of a wedding where purple was the predominent bride's color choice. Sorry no pics, but you can check out the "tartan book" for more info.

Not exactly tartan ...
... but if you are considering making your own kilt, there's this auction on eBay. The color is indigo in bright, natural light; but under other common lighting conditions it's purple.
It's not my auction, but I did buy some for kiltmaking.
