Can we bookmark these or make up an "XMARKS Dictionary" or something?
It could be placed next to the TANK definition under the Abbreviations on this Site subsection of the FAQ/Rules page.

Last week I bought my mother-in-law a new Whirlpool state of the art washer and dryer, the new kind that have the impeller instead of an agitator and she was beside herself waiting for the delivery. I teased her a lot about 'jonesing' and she just stared at me with that 'doe in the headlights' look...I wonder if I should explain 'jonesing' to her or keep it a secret?

Chances are you will get the same look trying to explain it to her.

I've heard the term outside XMarks once, in a Spider Robinson book, and it was in relation to the aforementioned chemical dependency.

Thanks all for the pointers - I'd not seen the word being used anywhere outside XMarks, and assumed that, like 'Tank' it was internal slang or jargon.

I notice that no-one has yet commented on my second question - Is it curable?

Only by aquisition of the longed for item. Yet, even then, it often reemerges in another form.

I'll let you know... I have 34 kilts with material for 2 more waiting and designs for 3 tartans that I'm trying to have registered with the STA. I'd say that it only gets worse with time...

Hanging around here won't cure you.

If there is a cure, that is. I'm not sure. My 14 year old son just bought his second kilt.

    Welcome on board!

Eh, what was the question? Oh, right, why on earth do you want to cure something that brings nothing but joy?!?!

I don't know..... It seems to bring the occasional episode of angst to some of us.
