I've heard the term outside XMarks once, in a Spider Robinson book, and it was in relation to the aforementioned chemical dependency.

Thanks all for the pointers - I'd not seen the word being used anywhere outside XMarks, and assumed that, like 'Tank' it was internal slang or jargon.
I notice that no-one has yet commented on my second question - Is it curable?

Only by aquisition of the longed for item. Yet, even then, it often reemerges in another form. :rolleyes:

I'll let you know... I have 34 kilts with material for 2 more waiting and designs for 3 tartans that I'm trying to have registered with the STA. I'd say that it only gets worse with time...

Yes, "Basketball Jones" was performed by none other than Cheech & Chong. ( hence the chemical dependance references again!)

If there is a cure, that is. I'm not sure. My 14 year old son just bought his second kilt.
