You know, I like it. It has a modern look to it that would set you apart from other kilties. Unless they specificly say "black tie", I think it could pass for a formal occasion, at least here in the US. Some will disagree, but just being in a kilt upgrades your mode of dress.
The sporran I think looks OK. I think full mask sporrans are considered formal. Its not my particular style but thats why they make different styles, everyone doesn't have the same taste.
I hope the earthquake Sunday morning didn't disrupt your life too much.

I'm with Heath Bar on this one. This is not the "usual thing". I'd expect to see a plaide with a short-waisted jacket like a prince charlie and white shirt/black tie.
That's what I'd EXPECT...that's what would be more "correct".
But dangit, you just look good, even though I'd match that white sporran with a white shirt and stark white (not off white) hose...otherwise use a dressy black sporran. But even though the plaide and the argyll and the long tie and black shirt are theoretically "wrong"....well...dangit, it looks good. So, go with it.
Now I'm wishing that I'd bought that Holyrood plaide that was on ebay for so long for uber-cheap.

Well he is living in Hawaii...
Not that I lived there very long...but I can understand standing out among the locals.
I could be completely wrong...
But...Hawaiians are very very strong in ideas and beliefs... WARRIORS all of them....Even if they are new howlies....or native brah....
If you live there...and are going to stand out...then you stand out BIG!
You gona wear a kilt...then wear the biggest...baddass kilt you got!
I give him credit...it may not look like something we would normally wear....
But it's BIG time to him...and he knows it....
Aloha!!!

Just about to post pics of my new Drummond of Perth kilt, when I saw Keepoffgrass's pics. What an outfit!
My tartan (theoretically the same as Kog's) will not be hidden behind a sporran.
If you must wear one, get something more modest, please, and don't listen to the white sox gang; black is just fine.

For myself, I'm not wild about a fly plaid with an Argyll jacket. And even when it is worn, I don't think you want that much of it showing in front. The shirt, tie, jacket, kilt, hose and all look good and very clean. Then the plaid looks untidy and random on top of it. Same with the sporran. I like a fur sporran, and I like full mask, but I like the shape to be neat and a little more refined, not with fur pointing in all directions. And definitely not white with all that black and red. The hose are fine, but I don't like white hose if I have a choice, and off-white is definitely casual. It's a very dressy outfit. Not bowtie and white shirt formal, but still dressy. And much better than the last attempt.
This is all just my own opinion and only given because you're asking.

Nice set of pics. You seem to wear that sporran well. I'm not a fan of animal sporrans but to each his own.
I think you outfit would have a different feel without the fur & fly.
Cheers,

Nice Ensemble
I think the outfit looks great. Part of what makes it look good is that you look comfortable with it. Wear it with confidence.
And now...
I hate to sound like the fashion police but...
Would you guys wear a Tuxedo with white socks?
The only time to wear white hose is when you are wearing a white shirt and only a white shirt, no jacket. This is a nice informal look. You draw too much attention to your lower half with the white hose. You want the focus on your face.

Young man you look sharp! But I have to ask. When you are sitting down has anybody ever asked if they could pet the dog - not knowing what it actually was?

Dude, I like it...but more importantly, do you like it? Well then, to hell with the rest of us!
