Just do it! I would echo others thoughts to perhaps go for an SWK or USAK casual just to see if you like the looks and fit of a more traditional kilt. Then if you decide you do, go for the tank. I have found that I wear all of my kilts in regular rotation. Some days I feel like wool and a nice tartan, other days it is wamr and I wear my USAK's in PV, and on other days I don't feel like wearing a sporran or tartan and strap on a UK. While a tank costs more, it is every bit as rugged and indestructible as any of your current kilts. Wear it when you will. I don't reserve any of my kilts for special occasions. I have too much fun putting together new and different combinations.

I'm going to add to the (deafening) chorus of "YOU GO GIRL!". You'll look great in a traditional kilt.

I would suggest not diving in for the whole 8 yarder + accessories, which is a big investment. Go to Stillwater or USA and order either a standard or heavyweight SWK or a USA Casual and some accessories (the Buzz Kidder sporrans are very durable and a good buy). You can get the whole look (if you want) for around or under $200. Then you can decide if you like the look enough to invest in the "Tank".

Just make sure to post some pictures (so you can stop being the mystery lady )

I will be honest with you Cloves, it sounds to me like you would be wasting your money on a traditional 8 yard kilt. It sounds like the comtemporay kilts better suit your lifestyle. A traditional kilt is an awesome piece of art and very comfortable to wear, but it may feel out of place in the job you do, or the activities you enjoy. I would instead suggest that you check out a dress model Freedom kilt and see what you think of the fit and the feel of a comtempory kilt that, by all reviews, has all the best attributes of the traditional kilt. The freedom kilt is in a solid colour and made of materials that will suit the needs you have listed in your first post in this thread. However, it sound slike Steve has captured the feel, the weight, the wing, and the presentation of a traditional kilt in his dress model (plus you can add pockets )

This will also give you an clear idea of whether a traditional kilt fit, feel, weight, tratan, price, etc are something that may appeal to you.

If it is simply the tartan you are wanting, I second the suggestion for a USAKilts semi-trad. Easier to clean, and very versatile.

I'm going to disagree with one thing said here, don't go with the USAK casual, go with the semi traditional. It's much closer to a full traditional kilt in fit and feel.

A kilt with the right top, hose and accessories looks great. Doesn't matter if you're male, female, both, neither or what ever. As far as which model to go with, if you want a tank talk with one of our kilt makers here such as Matt, Kathy or Barb. They should be able to make it either with left over right aprons or right over left (male vs female) as long as you let them know which way you would prefer. Just make sure you accessorize your new tank properly and POST PICTURES
