Well, from what I can see, it's a fine looking kilt. The tartan colours come through quite nicely. The Scottish National's been up there on my list for some time.

Must be fair....the sporran loops don't match the tartan at all. They didn't even try, and actually the sporran loops are cut on the bias. It's a pity, but for me isn't the end or the world, and I still wear the kilt around, no problem..

Actually Alan, I think your kilt is not too short at all.... Fits you quite well...
Just remember Thompson's advice... Better a kilt a little short than a little long.....
Why not just remove the sporran loops... None of my kilts have them, and a sporran stays in place just fine.

Say again?
Did I understand correctly that this kilt was $100? From MacKinnons? and the kilt that you compare it to was from Clansmen which was also $100? Both of which get good
value-for-money reviews?
Seems like a fine kilt for the price and I quite like the tartan, and as a new kiltie (as yet still bifurbicated), I am still struggling over my first kilt investment and all the choices to make...which maker, tartan, price, et cetera ad confusium...

The Scottish National Tartan is a beauty, for sure.
I'd have bought a Casual from USA Kilts, but this one just reached out and grabbed me in a weak moment...;)

As someone who has every right to admire good legs on a man I would say that the kilt is just the right length to show off your natural assets.
I mean - if you got it flaunt it - and having recently come across two photos of the inimitable Hamish in pinstriped kilts I would point out that he wears his kilts to exactly that same point on the knee cap.
I always go by 'the craftsman's rule' - If it looks right, it is right.
And - for 100 dollars? Definite Scottish tendencies there. Can't go wrong.

Kilt Length
If you're going to wear your kilts for a lot of walking, outdoor activities or such, it is good to have the kilt off the back of your knee. And the previous statement is correct; it is better to have the kilt a little shorter than longer.
I've just ordered a MacTavish, wool, end-of-line, SWK, clearance kilt for $80. It's in the mail as I type; should have it this week. My only connection with MacTavish, is that Clan Chattan (Clan MacIntosh) both supported Prince Charlie. If this kilt fits and looks good, I may order more SWKs, but I still like the SK for a nice light casual kilt. Also, I find a local Scottish Loft, sells custom made-to-measure 10 oz. (lightweight) wool kilts for $400 Cdn. in all tartans.
As I was just doing some family territory comparisons, it seems that MacTavish and Currie (me grandmither) are from the same area of Scotland, and me gran'fither's Glennie (Inverness, Culsalmond, Kemnay) isn't too far away, either. I wouldn't be surprised to find some family connection around 1800.
