Get the best, strongest two part epoxy you can get. Use that to re-attach the broken (pin) and a small blob to strengthen the othe. Less than $5 and 5 minutes time to fix.

    Cheers

I use a low melting pt. solder and flux that is designed to fuse dissimilar metals. It works great. I also use a small butane torch for the heat source. It is a little expensive >$20 at a welding supply store. O'Neille

    Umm,

Should those of us who have good pins still, be strengthening them somehow to avoid this?

    Thanks,

    Relevant question:

Are the breaking pins from tyhe first batch, the second or both?

The second batch is the one shipped this summer (2006).

I removed both pins, filed and sanded the back of the pin and replaced them with a safety lock pin...2 part metal-epoxy.

I also had 1 loose upon receiving my pin. KCW had stated that there was some problem with them, and would swap, but I used a 2 part Epoxy, and reinforced the other with it as well and I've had no problem so far.

Actually, I think the 2006 batch was the third. I remember, when I ordered mine in late 2005, it was said that the fasteners would be more secure than the first batch. I got mine through Hank, not KCW.

No problems with mine, so far.

    Hi all,

Thought I should clarify the XMarks pin problems and runs. I believe that there have been 3 runs. The first 2 runs were done by Hank (I believe) and used 2 different fastener systems. The very first run used a smaller version of a diaper pin (such as those found on some kilts), while the second (and third) used 2 posts with pin tacks. The very first run had some issues with how the pin was actually attached to the XMarks medallion. The second run seems to have been fault free, but I can't be sure. The third run, which I coordinated, did have an issue with Quality Control at the manufacturer. Some pins were delivered to me with broken posts, and those I had replaced. Others were broken in transit to the buyer and I think that all of those have been corrected.

Steve was good enough to provide me with some feedback on the shortcomings of the third run pins, and I will provide that feedback to the maker for the next run. The pin manufacturer has been the same for all 3 runs.

On a related note, is there interest in another run of pins? If we moved quickly, we might be able to have them available for Xmas (but that might be tight).

I build my own golf clubs, and I would reccomend "shafting epoxy" to hold just about anything. If it will hold a driver head on and stand up to the torque generated when Tiger Woods strikes a golfball at over 100 miles per hour, it should hold the pins. Here is a link for single packs.

You could also check local golf shops
