kilted Halloween Costume

We have a party to attend this weekend as well. Thought about doing the full-blown 1745 Jacobite thing, but I'll probably go as as 1700's seafaring man instead, and deny all night that I'm a pirate. "I'm no' but an honest seaman, ma'am; nary a pyrate ever in me born days, Lor' strike me if I be a-lyin'...!"

Like you fellas, I'll probably just raid my closet (actually, my flat drawer) and go in full kimono goodness as a geisha.

I have a couple of Jakobite shirts Which fall into the Costume Catagory.
Who has ideas on accessorising my kilt and Jakobite, to be a good Costume?
I am at a loss as to what would be appropriate. Any ideas welcome.

I'm going to our annual St. Andrew's Society Halloween party and bonfire as Golly Mackenzie, in his "ghillie" outfit: shooting trousers, wax jacket and bonnet! :mrgreen:

Very appropriate, since I'll be telling ghost stories -- perhaps I'll tell the tale of Red Bonnet and the large Pike!

Hey, if pants can be part of a Halloween costume so can your kilt. I am going for the "Braveheart" look at the party(s)* we are throwing: blue face paint, kilt, Jacobite shirt, and my kid's foam sword and shield from Legoland. Now I am fully aware that I am probably mixing about 1000 years of Scottish warrior-wear (Pict through post-Jacobite) -- blame Hollywood. Plus, it give me the opportunity to happily expound on the myth vs. reality to any who may be curious (or within ear shot).

* Halloween has gotten so big in my family, that we actually throw two pumpkin carving parties, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. My wife has accumulated so many Halloween decorations over the years (including a six foot animatronic Edwardian butler) that I jokingly explain that its because we are devil worshipers and this is our big time of year.

To me, wearing a kilt as a costume piece pretty much emphasizes in people's minds that they are costume pieces, not everyday clothing.

On the other hand, an historical costume is a costume, so that's fair game. I don't know what a "faux Great Kilt" is, but it doesn't sound like normal daily wear. I'm thinking of wearing a great kilt, too, mostly because I just got the material and haven't had the chance to wear it outside the house yet. And I'm just too lazy or too unimaginitive to put together a real Halloween costume.

I agree with you Jake, and I too am going for the "Braveheart" look at a party this weekend. My neighbor joked about me wearing a kilt to the party, and before I knew it, her and my wife had come up with this whole braveheart idea with the blue face paint and all. It didn't matter to them when I tried to explain the historical inaccuracies..... we do have hollywood to blame for that! But in all honesty, most people won't know or care.
