If people can work their day to day pants into a halloween costume, why can't we work the kilt to fit our halloween costume.
Ever since The Crow premeire in the movie theatre, I often wanted to dress up like The Crow for Halloween. I Instead of wearing a pair black pants, I will be wearing my black kilt.
If you want to do a kilted costume, you don't have dress it up like the typical highlander. you can use your imagination to create a unique costume. You can dress yourself up as a bounty hunter(from a galaxy far far away), vampire, rocker, pimp, safari hunter,or super hero(x-men?). The possibility is endless. Don't limit yourself.

has anyone seen the "highlander scotsman" costume at these halloween shops that pop up every year?
it costs 80 bucks and the fabric is so thin...heck I've seen thiker doillies(sp)!!!!!
that and the pleats are about 1/2" deep, AND go all the way around
talk about cheap! I could do better buying 6 yrds of McWalmart tartan and wraping it around my waist and look better ( for less $$ to boot!)
I'll admit I've dressed up as a military piper for halloween due to budget and time constraints. but this $80 costume is the WORST representation i have EVER seen !!!
Irish diplomacy: is telling a man to go to he)) in such a way that he looks forward to the trip!

I agree with you Jake, and I too am going for the "Braveheart" look at a party this weekend. My neighbor joked about me wearing a kilt to the party, and before I knew it, her and my wife had come up with this whole braveheart idea with the blue face paint and all. It didn't matter to them when I tried to explain the historical inaccuracies..... we do have hollywood to blame for that! But in all honesty, most people won't know or care.

Actually, I was in a Hobby Lobby store a few days ago and they did have some lightweight tartan material that would have filled the bill for the "Braveheart" great kilt look...I didn't check the price, though. I'd just buy some material from the store and find the great kilt wrapping instructions online.
Best

My take on it is dressing like a pre rebellion Highlander or an 18th or 19th century soldier as a kilt outfit qualifies as costume without disrespecting the kilt. wearing more contemporary outfits as a costume is over the line.

...just like it's his right to wear one to a costume party if he feels like it.
Alan, you are absolutely right! Question: do you wear a kilt when you attend the ACLU meetings?
