Ron,
Put a little blob of 2 part epoxy at the base of the pin to strengthen the weld.

Wow good to know that I'm not the only one that has had problems. On the other hand just plain super glue has been holding mine for weeks.

On the other hand. I was on my way out the door to a wedding on Sat night and it broke again - so much for super glue.

In my humble opinion,
If you need to put something together for display purposes super glue is fine. If it is something that you are going to be doing anything with, go for the two part part epoxy
Super glue for show
Two part epoxy is good to go

The second batch is the one shipped this summer (2006).
Actually, I think the 2006 batch was the third. I remember, when I ordered mine in late 2005, it was said that the fasteners would be more secure than the first batch. I got mine through Hank, not KCW.
No problems with mine, so far.

Hi all,
Thought I should clarify the XMarks pin problems and runs. I believe that there have been 3 runs. The first 2 runs were done by Hank (I believe) and used 2 different fastener systems. The very first run used a smaller version of a diaper pin (such as those found on some kilts), while the second (and third) used 2 posts with pin tacks. The very first run had some issues with how the pin was actually attached to the XMarks medallion. The second run seems to have been fault free, but I can't be sure. The third run, which I coordinated, did have an issue with Quality Control at the manufacturer. Some pins were delivered to me with broken posts, and those I had replaced. Others were broken in transit to the buyer and I think that all of those have been corrected.
Steve was good enough to provide me with some feedback on the shortcomings of the third run pins, and I will provide that feedback to the maker for the next run. The pin manufacturer has been the same for all 3 runs.
On a related note, is there interest in another run of pins? If we moved quickly, we might be able to have them available for Xmas (but that might be tight).

I build my own golf clubs, and I would reccomend "shafting epoxy" to hold just about anything. If it will hold a driver head on and stand up to the torque generated when Tiger Woods strikes a golfball at over 100 miles per hour, it should hold the pins. Here is a link for single packs.

And any hardware or auto shop will stock "JB Weld", which will survive any abuse.

Hi,
Second on "JB Weld", very agressive holding power.

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice but in practice there is.
